Blobs that make more blobs

This was completely an experiment by trying a different painting approach that I had read about early this week. The idea was to paint with only hard brushes without any pen pressure effects and controlled opacity. I didn't think you could make gradient blending with hard brushes this way, but I was wrong! The approach requires more control, but it also can be used to build up much more quickly and has an interestingly organic-ish aesthetic. I may not have done the best with the method, but this whole thing started as a giant blob used for blending testing.. so I'm happy with it. :D

WildStar - Aurin

Seeing how it's almost been a year since I drew my first WildStar aurin fan art, I figured I'd retry the large eyed style again. This started as just a warmup sketch, but then I thought it might be interesting to continue.

Aurin and WildStar belong to Carbine Studios.

Edit: It actually has been a whole year (and a day!) since I first started drawing WildStar fan art.. so here's the very first image, a sketch on paper (shocking!).

...and a quick 2014 digital paint-over.

.....and an overview sheet of most of the WildStar fan art I've done in the last year.

WildStar - Draken sketch

Draken character sketch from a straight-on reference I found in one of the character creation videos. I tried to go quickly through this and get a basic layout. I left it pretty sloppy, but might work on it more to finish it.

Edit: Adding some progress on this. The top image was made lighter automatically, but I found out what blogger was doing that (auto-enhance is a feature turned on by default once blogger is connected to google+).

Still needs more work. It feels too dark still as well as some cleaning up and polishing. :D

Wounded Mordesh sketch & WIP

..Today's sketch taking a different general approach. Yesterday I was mainly working on coloring flats, which really take me out of the process of drawing/painting. I'm adding my Female Granok Medic color WIP as well.

WildStar Granok Medic Lines Finished

I started this fanart piece back in September, but I only ever left it in a rough form. Some time later I started inking it, but then stopped that too. And finally, this week I picked it out of my old art file and decided to finish it up. I don't usually do heavy line work, so this was good practice. :D

Granoks and WildStar belong to Carbine Studios.

Star Wild WIPs

Going through my art files from last year and I found some projects I put a lot of work into, but never finished. Here's my WIP for my old female Granok medic sketch. At the time I had decided to practice a heavy line style. I have a few more related unfinished work, but I'm not really interested in finishing those up.

The second image was a warmup aurin drawing for a subsequent aurin drawing. And the third image is that subsequent drawing I was asked to make, which was based on the person's game character. I didn't like where I left it. I spent a long time working on it. Then towards the end I made sweeping, messy changes to it.

Not an ark

I decided to just remove the background for this and cleaned up the character some. I simply had too much black in the picture and it was too hard to distinguish the character from the background. After I finished I realized that this character looks somewhat like a Mortal Kombat character.. she's not. I'm throwing in the original sketch that started this drawing off late Sunday night.

Monster legs

I started out with a part monster, part women sketch. The feet feel a little clunky, but overall I'm happy with the drawing.

A well and Lantern

Working on this since last night. Still trying to figure out what to do with this.

Figuring out a Background

This last Monday evening I threw down a rough sketch for this. I really didn't have any idea what I was drawing. I'm still figuring it out, but here are a few of the stages I've worked on so far. The main idea was to have the character be stone-faced (no, not stoned). The hair started off really curly, then I decided to switch the hair over to something Farrah Fawcett-ish. I think I may need to just redo the head completely as I figure out what I'm doing with the background.

Makoto sketch

I don't know why, but I was struck with the sudden urge to draw Makoto from Street Fighter. I barely ever played as her, because she seemed to be one of the most technical characters. It's been awhile since I've picked up SF, but I've always loved the various characters from fighters.

Oh I just realized why I had SF on my mind. Completely had forgotten that I watched Pete Holmes Red Tape on youtube this morning. :D

Makoto is a character in Street Fighter which belongs to Capcom.
