T2

WIP

Torchlight 2 Lydia WIP

A friend and I played through Torchlight 2 with characters Walt and Lydia (named from Breaking Bad), and after we finished the campaign I started drawing the characters. I originally started the drawing at the end of 2012. I wound up leaving the partially drawn sketch. In my file cleaning from the other day I saw the sketch, thought it was interesting, and set it aside to work on later... So here is some of the work I've been doing on the drawing.

Symphony

Old drawing of my mesmer from GW2.

Mustang rework

Been going through old work and touching them up some, trying to figure out what didn't work with them. The original was very blurry and had too many soft edges, especially on the plane itself. The shape of the plane wasn't right, it's still not that great, but it's better.

Pirate lady - Quick touch up

Been going through my art files and saw this old project. I noticed it was the face that was off. Without completely reworking it, I touched it up some.

Wolverine sketch

I found a very loose sketch I had done of Wolverine from some time ago. I decided to add to it a bit.

Wolverine belongs to Marvel.

Ratty

I found drawing an irregular face to be interesting. This image has a really odd thumbnail composition and I can't tell if that's because something is off or simply because it's a bug-eyed creature face... I tried a new signature type after reading about how to properly sign your images. I have a messy signature which doesn't come off as creative, and print is crisper and less distracting.. so I'll try that for awhile. The copyright symbol just makes the sig look cooler. :P

Shiny Clothing Study

I really need to do more studies involving soft edge materials. This was a "quick" study that took awhile.

Totally Clouds

Had a wonderful sunset tonight. I started by attempting to paint the sky by memory, but I wasn't doing so well, and so I grabbed a ref. The study was actually from a photo I took about a week ago. I was mainly trying to get the values down, I wasn't too concerned with the cloud shape. It's close, but didn't quite get it there.

Symph WIP

My war from WS. Not finished, still working on the character.

General Shapes

I've been working with flash AS3 and, in the spirit of simplified shapes, briefly worked on some cartoon studies. This was a side sketch. Sad power girl..well.. because she's drawn poorly. :D Whenever I draw loopy eyes with a few too many scratchy/sketchy marks it feels like I was trying for a John K Ren & Stimpy style.

Honestly, it's very helpful to practice cartoon styles as they focus on simplicity, large general shapes and gesture, somethings I'm terrible at conveying properly. I make the beginner mistake almost all the time of jumping straight into detail, making a contorted mess of my project.

Sketch'in

For the entire beginning half of June my tablet was unplugged. I did pick up my sketchbook though. I worked on some simple studies and took some notes, but other than that I haven't really practiced drawing. Today however, I spent a good portion of my time simply drawing. I wasn't particularly after anything, just drawing. It's really fun to draw without any preconceptions, worries, concerns, or pressing matters to attend to.

And here are some silly, juvenile, boob drawings, playing with focal points. :P

And a little less ballooning..

WIP - Granok Pinup

I thought it'd be fun to try a Granok pinup. I still need to tweak the pose, but more or less I'm happy with how it's progressing. The crossed eyes are generally what I draw in before I've settled on a face expression; it sort of works with the pose right now; I don't know if I'll change it. : /

Edit: Worked on this some more. Starting to get to the point where there are too many options to take. I'll have to take a break now.

Fem chua

Sketched this out back when there were all those Female Chua threads; cleaned it up and colored it today. I can't claim to say I know what a chua looks like offhand.

Be Ta No Lo Ng Er

I really haven't gotten much drawing in this May. I had pneumonia for the first half of the month and I didn't get much accomplished. ..Well, here's a Granok. : /

Migraine

Monday night I had a migraine. I hadn't had one for awhile. That night I tried to rough out where my vision was. All of my vision was blurry, but much of it was also just flat out gone. The above isn't meant to be the start of a drawing or anything. The purple was roughly where my vision cut off and the white was roughly where I could see. This was roughed out at mostly full screen on a 21 in. monitor at approximately 3 feet from the monitor. At the time, I pretty much had no vision just a few inches to the right in my right eye, and it was difficult to see in the center of my focus.

I tried to keep a log during my migraine, as my brain is a little loopy whenever they occur, and I never really can fully describe them once they have left. I thought it was interesting trying to describe the effects.

Lopp y Draken

Started this this morning and now I'm going a little cross-eyed. It could be cleaned up some, but at the very least, I need a break from it now.

Blobs that make more blobs

This was completely an experiment by trying a different painting approach that I had read about early this week. The idea was to paint with only hard brushes without any pen pressure effects and controlled opacity. I didn't think you could make gradient blending with hard brushes this way, but I was wrong! The approach requires more control, but it also can be used to build up much more quickly and has an interestingly organic-ish aesthetic. I may not have done the best with the method, but this whole thing started as a giant blob used for blending testing.. so I'm happy with it. :D

WildStar - Aurin

Seeing how it's almost been a year since I drew my first WildStar aurin fan art, I figured I'd retry the large eyed style again. This started as just a warmup sketch, but then I thought it might be interesting to continue.

Aurin and WildStar belong to Carbine Studios.

Edit: It actually has been a whole year (and a day!) since I first started drawing WildStar fan art.. so here's the very first image, a sketch on paper (shocking!).

...and a quick 2014 digital paint-over.

.....and an overview sheet of most of the WildStar fan art I've done in the last year.

WildStar - Draken sketch

Draken character sketch from a straight-on reference I found in one of the character creation videos. I tried to go quickly through this and get a basic layout. I left it pretty sloppy, but might work on it more to finish it.

Edit: Adding some progress on this. The top image was made lighter automatically, but I found out what blogger was doing that (auto-enhance is a feature turned on by default once blogger is connected to google+).

Still needs more work. It feels too dark still as well as some cleaning up and polishing. :D

Wounded Mordesh sketch & WIP

..Today's sketch taking a different general approach. Yesterday I was mainly working on coloring flats, which really take me out of the process of drawing/painting. I'm adding my Female Granok Medic color WIP as well.

WildStar Granok Medic Lines Finished

I started this fanart piece back in September, but I only ever left it in a rough form. Some time later I started inking it, but then stopped that too. And finally, this week I picked it out of my old art file and decided to finish it up. I don't usually do heavy line work, so this was good practice. :D

Granoks and WildStar belong to Carbine Studios.

Star Wild WIPs

Going through my art files from last year and I found some projects I put a lot of work into, but never finished. Here's my WIP for my old female Granok medic sketch. At the time I had decided to practice a heavy line style. I have a few more related unfinished work, but I'm not really interested in finishing those up.

The second image was a warmup aurin drawing for a subsequent aurin drawing. And the third image is that subsequent drawing I was asked to make, which was based on the person's game character. I didn't like where I left it. I spent a long time working on it. Then towards the end I made sweeping, messy changes to it.

Not an ark

I decided to just remove the background for this and cleaned up the character some. I simply had too much black in the picture and it was too hard to distinguish the character from the background. After I finished I realized that this character looks somewhat like a Mortal Kombat character.. she's not. I'm throwing in the original sketch that started this drawing off late Sunday night.

Monster legs

I started out with a part monster, part women sketch. The feet feel a little clunky, but overall I'm happy with the drawing.
